All the results from this week's games are as printed in the Fixtures and Results pages linked above, except the Three Crowns did not turn up to play their game against the Rising Sun 'A'. I have spoken to Barney Donaghy at the pub and he assures me the team will be at the Railway View 'B' [in Week 2]. Barney himself was away, and the arrangements he made obviously did not work out. Assuming all goes well from now on, we will sort out about the missing game later in the season.
The Chester Road Tavern 'B' only managed 3 Question Masters – the Franklin kindly covered, and I haven't heard what the excuse was.
The Franklin need help with an additional Question Master [in Week 3], perhaps the Chester Road Tavern 'B' could return the favour ...
The scores for the D League game between the Bruce and the Three Crowns are missing. The sheet was returned to Bar 108 on Wednesday morning when the pub was shut – the sheet was pushed through the letterbox.
Both teams agree that the Three Crowns won the game by 72 – 71, so this result will be added to the statistics from the next News & Views onwards.
Please note that you have until the close of the pub on Wednesday to return the score sheets – i.e. you have all day and evening Wednesday to get the scores back there when the pub is open. Things do go astray when they are pushed through the door when the pub is shut.
The score for the game between the Three Crowns and Sutton Club was added up incorrectly. The score was recorded as a 111 – 102 win for the Three Crowns, when the actual score when totalled up properly was 111 – 112 to Sutton Club.
This is not the first time this has happened this season, although it is the first where the result has been altered.
Please check the totals carefully at the end of the game. I know adding up in drink is never an accurate science, but it can make a difference!
A sad announcement: Bernard Tozer, who has played for several years for the Rising Sun 'X', has died after being ill for the last few months.
A lot of League players will have come to know Bernard, who was a regular player and supporter of the Quiz League for over 15 years. He was the founder of the Robin Hood, Rainow, the team later moving to the George & Dragon, and then again recently to the Rising Sun. Bernard maintained a keen interest in the questions and performances even through his illness, and he will be sadly missed by the many people who know him well from Tuesday evenings.
The funeral was held at Rainow Parish Church on Tuesday 23 March.
Condolences were offered to all his family and friends at this difficult time.
